Corp ID, Assignment 1
3 Good Logo Designs
- Hello Bistro, Pittsburgh, PA
Nice, simple logo design. Cute, inviting font choice that is well placed in the bubble. The text hierarchy between the two text elements helps to make the space not feel cramped.
2. Local Eat & Pour, Erie, PA
A lot going on in this design, but I feel like it all works. The small “L” logo in the top of the design is really nice, and it lets you know the vibe of the restaurant. The coordinates further push the “local” aspect of the whole design. My only complaint is that the ampersand and the dot in Erie, PA are neither aligned to each other nor the center of the outlined shape.
3. Carnegie Museum of Natural History, Pittsburgh, PA
The font choice gives official, bold vibes. The purposeful choice to bold “Natural History” separates it from the other Carnegie Museums in the city. Cute dinosaur graphic, you know exactly what you’re going to see when you go there!
3 Bad Logo Designs
- Blackout Burger, Grove City, PA
Looking past the awkward shadow on the main text, not a single element of the cow logo relates to each other. The relationship between the hyper-realistic cowboy hat, black and white flat cow head with its shaded horns, MS Paint-esque tongue, and the semi transparent utensils reads of a logo confused about what it’s trying to do. Great restaurant, terrible logo!
2. Sun your Buns, Erie, PA
Clever sun as a butt motif! However, the rays are unevenly spaced, the “your” is awkwardly squished in the typeface and the placement of the sub header doesn’t relate to any other element in the logo.
3. PennWest University :(
Overly generic and easily mistakable as somewhere else. Both the color and font are reminiscent of other PA schools. The compass replacing part of the ‘t’ is awkwardly placed and would look better without it. The three different shades of red and two shades of gold may look fine when they’re used individually, but as a set, it looks sloppy.
